Maene & Steinway: A Unique Partnership

Piano’s Maene has been the official dealer of Steinway & Sons for decades, but our bond goes much deeper. In 2002, Piano’s Maene became the exclusive dealer for Belgium, at Steinway’s request.

Shortly thereafter, Steinway Hamburg asked Chris Maene – second generation within the company and a master of historical piano building – to create reproductions of the first-ever Steinway from 1836: a grand piano by Engelbert Steinweg, the founder of the company. These historic instruments were showcased worldwide as a tribute to the beginning of a piano legend.

The world-famous Barenboim Project also emerged from this collaboration: in 2013, Steinway & Sons sent pianist Daniel Barenboim to Chris Maene with the request to build a modern right-strung grand piano. The result was the famous Barenboim Concert Grand, which is still played worldwide and built in our very own Atelier Chris Maene.

Since 2019, Piano’s Maene has also been the exclusive dealer of Steinway & Sons in the Netherlands. This expansion began with the opening of our first store, bringing our years of expertise and close collaboration with Steinway to Dutch piano enthusiasts.

This intense collaboration with Steinway is unique in Europe – a recognition of our expertise and our shared passion for perfection in piano craftsmanship.
