Doutreligne upright pianos are particularly popular with both beginners and advanced pianists who want to maximise their budget. For the best sound quality and durability, quality materials such as a German Strunz soundboard, German Röslau strings and German Abel hammerheads are used. The black high-gloss finish, combined with hinges and pedals in chrome, give the instruments a contemporary look. The three upright models in this series below offer a solution for every budget and musical needs.

Sound

Doutreligne instruments are characterised by a warm sound in the bass registers, combined with a sparkling clarity in the higher octaves. This typically European timbre makes the pianos ideally suited to a wide range of musical styles. The character of the instruments is carefully tuned and voiced by top technicians trained internally at Pianos Maene. In this way, we imbue the instruments with a unique musicality that builds on over 80 years of craftsmanship and expertise. Each instrument undergoes a strict quality check and may only leave the workshop in Ruiselede when we are convinced that the sound is perfect.

Soundboard

The soundboard, also called the soul of the piano, converts the vibrations of the strings into a unique piano sound. Doutreligne soundboards consist of strictly selected solid spruce with fine straight grain, produced by German quality brand Strunz. Each soundboard is carefully 'taped', giving it more freedom to vibrate. This ensures optimum sound and a powerful sustain.

Hamerheads

The hammerheads of top brand Abel are made of maple wood (upright pianos) and mahogany (grand pianos). These are very light, responsive woods that provide a pleasant touch and unparalleled purity. All hammerheads are equipped with a double felt layer. This ensures that the shape of the hammerheads is better preserved and that the felt is more resistant to years of string impact. The Master series features Renner's superior hammer heads.

Strings

There are about 220 strings in a piano, and each string is under an average tension of 70 to 80 kilogram force. The best quality of German steel strings from Röslau was chosen for the strings. The instruments feature a duplex scale, which causes the upper and lower parts of the string to vibrate with the singing part of it. This creates a fuller tone and a richer sound.

Vertical laminated bridges

All Doutreligne instruments feature bridges consisting of multiple layers of maple wood. The use of vertically laminated bridges (patented by Steinway & Sons in 1880) ensures that the energy created by the vibration of the strings is transferred to the soundboard more efficiently. This in turn contributes to even greater purity of sound.

Cabinet design

The cabinet design is entirely in the hands of our graphics specialist, who was trained in the Maene workshop and has already gained a great deal of expertise in designing replicas of historical instruments and most recently in designing the straight strung Chris Maene concert grand pianos. Opting for a stylish and sleek design, the instruments stand out from the typical, more traditional design found in other piano brands. This makes the pianos' design suitable for both everyday and modern interiors. The extra-wide music stand ensures that even more scores can be placed neatly side by side in one row.
